Dulux Hog Bristle: The Classic Beige with a Pink Undertone for Warm, Elegant Interiors

Welcome to Interiors by Style! I’m Bozica, a qualified interior designer and colour specialist, and in today’s colour review, I’m diving into one of Dulux’s most iconic neutrals — Hog Bristle.

This beautiful beige with a pink undertone has been a long-time favourite in many Australian homes, and while the trends may shift, this warm neutral still has its place when used in the right way.

Undertone: What You Need to Know

Hog Bristle is a beige with a pink undertone. To confirm this, I always compare it to a pure white, such as Dulux Vivid White. That comparison is key — the pink hue becomes obvious and helps you determine if it’s the right fit for your space.

💡 Pro tip: Never choose a paint colour from a tiny swatch. Always test with an A4-size sample, and compare it to a true white to reveal the undertone clearly.

What’s the LRV of Hog Bristle?

The Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of Hog Bristle is 67, which puts it in that sweet spot between 55–75. This means:

  • It’s not too dark or too light

  • Ideal for painting all walls, not just feature walls

  • Works beautifully in open-plan living or bedrooms with plenty of natural light

Where to Use Dulux Hog Bristle

  • Living Rooms & Bedrooms: Adds instant warmth and softness

  • Open Plan Areas: If there’s good light, this colour will glow

  • North-facing rooms: It may appear slightly darker, so supplement with artificial light

Hog Bristle pairs beautifully with:

  • Vivid White (crisp, no undertone) for high contrast on architraves, doors, and ceilings

  • Snowy Mountain Half (a soft white) for a warmer, tone-on-tone finish

Working with the Pink Undertone

Beige with a pink undertone isn’t the most flexible, so:

  • Avoid pairing with green or orange-based neutrals

  • Stick to a maximum of two undertones per space

  • Always repeat the pink undertone at least twice in your room through accessories or soft furnishings

Interior Styling Ideas

  • If your sofa or headboard is a pink-based beige, Hog Bristle is a natural wall choice.

  • Add contrast with forest green, deep mustard, or burgundy accessories

  • Repeat your chosen colours through cushions, rugs, curtains, or artwork for a cohesive look

Can You Use Hog Bristle Outside?

Yes — but only if you love the pink undertone.

  • It will look 2–3 shades lighter outdoors due to sunlight

  • Works beautifully with white windows, fascias, and gutters

  • Avoid pairing it with cream windows or orange-toned bricks

Final Thoughts
